Welcome to Port Sorell Primary School. We are a school of approximately 295 students located next to a natural bushland setting, close to the beach and Rubicon estuary. Our school and its beautiful surrounds provide a unique environment for children to grow and to realise their individual potential.

Catering for students from kindergarten to Grade 6, our classroom programs follow The Australian Curriculum and Early Years Learning Framework, with an emphasis on developing children’s literacy and numeracy skills. In addition to the core learning areas, we offer a range of programs including literacy intervention/support, Physical Education, Music, Japanese, Breakfast Club, Water Awareness and Learn to Swim programs. We also run a weekly Launching into Learning Early Years Program for children from birth to 4 years and their parents/carers.

Port Sorell Primary School works in partnership with our community to ensure learning is valued.  We encourage and support our students to develop knowledge, skills, and understandings across all curriculum areas so that each child reaches their full potential.

Our whole school wellbeing program teaches and supports positive mental health in the classroom. Student engagement and wellbeing is supported and assessed through the wellbeing program: ‘The Resilience Project’. The aim of this program is to develop students’ resilience and happiness by providing practical, mental health strategies. The program is centred on the values of Empathy, Gratitude and Mindfulness.

Our school values focus on courage, respect, aspiration and growth and our students are encouraged to be caring, inclusive and responsible citizens. Students are encouraged everyday to be thinkers, communicators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers.

Our school understands the important role the broader community plays in the progress of our students. We seek to continually build positive partnerships with parents, carers, and the wider school community. Our school community is proud of the achievements of students and celebrates success at every opportunity both formally through whole school assemblies, and informally through classroom recognition.

Port Sorell Primary is well known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where all members of our school community are respected, supported and valued. The school has a reputation for  support and involvement from both the community and professional staff. Our closely linked community holds the school in regard and supports its activities.

An integral part of the management of the school is the very active School Association which assists in overviewing school operations and plays a pivotal role in supporting the school and its programs.

We warmly welcome your family to Port Sorell Primary School and trust that your association with the school will be a happy and rewarding one.
